BOONE GAP HISTORIC SITE
US 25 crosses from Rockcastle County into Madison County at Boone Gap. This crest divides the waters of the Rockcastle River basin from the Kentucky River basin. Boone Gap is the last "gap" that Boone and his party had to cross before reaching the flatlands of Kentucky.
A large wall is still in tact that served as on overlook for travelers on the Old State Road before the interstate and highway was built. The DAR placed a marker here in 1915.With an inscription in the concrete base on which the marker was placed, the Kentucky Daughters honored Miss Erna Berry Watson for her work in organizing the Daniel Boone's Trail project in Kentucky and arranging for the placement of 15 cast iron tablets.
there is currently a sitting area at boone gap. there are also trails being worked on in the area that boone gap will pass through boone gap. once these projects have finished it will serve as a trail head for these trails.
